We're back with the Designer Spotlight! This news segment is fully dedicated to put a designer in the spotlight. We've asked them about themselves, their creations, their process and their inspirations. This spotlight is for and by Verdana!
Let's introduce!
Hello models! I go by the username Verdana and I’m 29 years old. My Gosupermodel journey started when I was about 10 or 11 years old. Back then, I spent countless of hours drawing, especially portraits and faces. It has always fascinated me. So becoming a (community) designer on gsm was a childhood dream, now come true.
Working with pixels isn't entirely new to me. Back in the day, I used to create blog layouts for bloggers, both coding and designing headers and details. Photography has also been a loving hobby of mine for years, so both photo editing and drawing have given me skills that have been incredibly helpful when creating designs on gsm.

My design process is anything but structured, it's entirely mood driven. I can go days, sometimes even weeks, without creating a single thing, and then BAM! suddenly inspiration hits and I finish a whole look in one sitting. Love it. Hate it. It’s how I work.

Something that remains consistent is my appreciation for realism. Whether it's in traditional art or pixel design, I think I’ve implemented it into my designs to an extent (take it with a pinch of salt). At the same time, I don't like boxing myself into one style. I enjoy experimenting and pushing myself creatively. One collection might lean into fantasy, the next into casual streetwear, and the one after that could be inspired by the renaissance.
My biggest design inspirations have been St4rlet and later on, Eloquinn. The level of detail and polish they bring to every single piece is incredible and their work continues to inspire me. Other designers I admire include Hastings, Priestley, Leni15, triptych, MioArt, Vivian, Petrikor and Martine.
When it comes to designing itself, the one area I’d give my advice on is to go easy on the shadowing. I personally love doing it when I draw, but it’s clear that it can very easily become too much with these small designs, which I noticed on the faces I’ve released from start till now. Making it more ‘flat’, then adding highlights will go a long way than to mainly focus on the shadows.

Other than that, I’d say to just practice, take breaks once in a while to come back to the designs with fresh eyes. Trials and errors are a part of learning.
One thing that I LOVE putting into my designs, are pearls. It adds so much elegance to a piece! I’ve made about 10 designs with it, so it's easily my favorite items. Not only does it soften up a look, but it’s also creating a detail to a fit that would already be more or less simple, more interesting.

Making anything with fur is also something I'm very proud of. It takes time though.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing people wear my designs. Every user has their own creative take on styling an item and it's so much fun to see how differently everyone interprets the pieces. As for what the future holds, is unknown. I’m not usually planning my designs, I just do it whenever it comes to mind. There are a few projects I have started on, but never finished due to lack of motivation or not satisfied. Boring, I know. But at least it’s fun when something does end up in the shop! :)
Lastly, I’d love to take the chance to thank all of you for supporting me! It means the world to me ❤️
