JD mock-up with: Jopie!
Hello you wonderful people!
While the new Junior Designers have been made public and we're all just settling down, it's time for a new JD mock-up!
We want to take the time and stand still with the people who sadly weren't asked to compete in round two this time around.
We asked them to send us their designs for a little mock-up, and a few questions so we can get to know them better for the next round.
Today's user is Jopie with her Fairycore outfit!
1. Please share a little of your creative process, before you sit down to make something. What do you like to do to get the creative juices flowing?
''Most of the time I use the time it's quiet at work (I work in a small shop) to draw out some ideas. Then I use this overall sketch as a guide for a coloured sketch in Photoshop to see if the shapes/colours match each other the way I envisioned. Then I look for loads of reference pictures on Google and Pinterest!''
2. If you were chosen to compete in the Junior Designer competition, what would be your biggest goal as a designer? Models styling your items? Sharing creativity or love for a certain fashion icon?
''I would love to see other people styling my designs! There's so much creativity on gsm! If I can add to that by expanding the archive that would be my dream come true.''
3. If you could describe your style with a few sentences, what would it be?
''I'd describe my style as a work-in-progress. I love finding new textures and fashion styles to design, I don't have one theme or style that I always use: I love to combine all the styles, textures, patterns and colours into somewhat messy but deliciously color coordinated looks. I always thank my grandma for this: the colourful way she puts her outfits together is so inspiring to me!''
4. What is your most favourite thing to make? Either for models or as a drawing in general.
''Recently I found out I really enjoy designing denim pieces! My favourite thing to design would be hair though, when I manage to pull that off I feel happiest. I also have loads of fun designing patterns.''
5. If you want to inspire any budding artist, what do you want to tell them?
''Design because you think it's fun. I sometimes feel bad because it's 'just for a pixel website' and I'm 'wasting my time'. But I enjoy it so much, so there's no time wasted and honestly: I learn more about shading, drawing clothing folds, light positioning and colour combinations than I did when I attended art school. So if you like art: put in the time, look up those 10.000 tutorials on the same subject and start making stuff. Doesn't matter if it's any good or not. If you enjoy it, it's good enough.''
Teddirachi's fashion check: Yup! This screams creative alright. I love how the Fairy theme has taken a slightly different turn from the butterfly wings, and was more focussed on the Dragon fly effect this time. The deep emerald color really sells the mystique of this wondeful critter. To me the skirt is the amazing stand-out this time around. The combination of the orange with green is very refreshing, and the shading on this is impeccable! You could have fooled me saying that it was made by gSm, what talent! The greatly detailed wings on the front also scream creative, creative, creative! I wish I could combo that skirt right now...
