goSupertools - Designer Spotlight: tinkerbel9
In the Spotlight: tinkerbel9!

This news segment is fully dedicated to put a designer in the spotlight. We've asked them about themselves, their creations, their process and their inspirations. This spotlight is for and by tinkerbel9!

Let's introduce!

HIII !!! I am tinkerbel9, but people mostly call me tink!

Being creative is something I have done my entire life, though I do think that gSm has been the source of my love for fashion and the beginning of me doing digital art. Albeit with only a trackpad or mouse, and little to no skill, the old Design Tool was my place to be !!!

My name, however cringe I found it to be, comes from my gSm1 user, and it had been a dream to one day see an item in my wardrobe that said 'made by tinkerbel9'. I joined the JD comp and even made it to the finals! My first item to hit the shops was my Halloween guest design comp Skelly, who definitely wasn’t missing a few bones the first time I designed it …

I mainly love designing things that have to do with any media I’m a fan of, so you will probably be able to see that pattern HAHAHA!

Design process and inspiration

I am definitely guilty of designing things that are rather specific to my interests, so I tend to have a starting point there. I like working from greyscale so I can see the values, and I use gradient maps to bring the items to life!

Being a Community Designer is very, very fun. I can design whatever I want to wear, and with enough patience, I can add it to my looks. I do however really miss the vibes of the JD comp, and Junior Designers teasing their new items. Nothing will ever top that for me !

My biggest inspirations are probably the friends I made during the JD comp. Even though some don't design too much anymore, I still admire them a lot ! There's too many to list, but I'd like to specifically pick out Friet met Crisis, Terzo, Alomnia, Mikah, and Wonderstruck ! (guys, feel free to take this as a sign to design more so I can wear it)
Not only are you all so talented, but you also always give me constructive feedback, which I can’t thank you enough for! But, since the tool, I have also really admired Chizumi’s super cute overlays and game effects! There’s so many people I can’t list them all 💔

As for tips, I have many ! I hope to maybe make some more in-depth tutorials for some of these things, but a weird tip I have is that sometimes you need to start from scratch… I KNOOOOW I KNOW but I often find that if I struggle with a certain item and try to tweak the existing version, it only brings more frustration and annoyance. Sometimes it’s good to start with the same idea, take what you’ve learned and what you didn’t like about your previous version, and start over ! Also, gradient maps are your friend … I learned that much too late LOL

Past, Present and Future

I think the item I’m most proud of is the wheelchair ! Not because I had any grand sales and that I maxed out on gM and blabla (don’t really care about that) but because it was such a technical challenge ! With such a small border and the struggle of an existing base, it was definitely a bit of a hard one. I also think it was the longest I’ve ever spent on a design, but I am so glad I did it, and I think it turned out very well !!! But of course my JD Comp ‘Dream’ outfit will always have a special place in my heart as well ❤️

And what I’m working on ? Good question ummm … I have about a thousand unfinished designs, so you’ll never know what's coming next !! muhahaha … muhaha… But, for you, I've compiled some of my MANY unfinished works 😉

To end this all off, I want to thank the goSuper.tools team for inviting me to this, my friends for looking at all my endless process pictures, and everyone on gSm for wearing my items ❤️ It’s a childhood dream come true, no matter how silly that sounds !

Stay creative, keep making, and FUCK GEN-AI ! ❤️
