In the Spotlight: Yuuni!

This news segment is fully dedicated to put a designer in the spotlight. We've asked them about themselves, their creations, their process and their inspirations. This spotlight is for and by Yuuni!

Let's introduce!

HAIII
Im Yuuni and i LOV long walks on the beach ❤️

I started playing gsm back in 2011 until it shut down (sigh) and i remember one day being added by one of my 1.0 friends to this gsm revival chat on facebook and i was like QUE ITS COMING BACK??? and now here we are yahoo!

I love goofin around on gsm and bully my friends and shitpost and twirl into chaos, if u catch me bein a lil bleeper on ur fmb just know i love u dearly<3

Ive always been drawn to anything regarding the ability to express myself through creativity. I play a couple instruments in real life, and i also write my own songs. Ive been drawing my whole life, but its not until the revival of gsm where ive actually been consistent. U can truly see my progress through the years just from the commissions Ive done here.

Ive always been intrigued about learning how to design, and i think the very first design i did was back in 2023. But its not until the creation of community designing where ive been consistent and determined to learn and improve. Going from drawing on a bigger canvas, to a small one was very challenging at first, it was def an adjustment and a learning process. Im such a perfectionist, so when i decide to do something im not stopping until it is. its a painfully annoying trait but its also what motivates me to keep going.

Design process and inspiration

Like everyone else, i start off with a shape, and then to bring that shape to life, i render. I somewhat understand where light and shadows go as ive been drawing for a while now, however references are soso important, and through them u also learn. Especially with folding of materials and different textures. A lot of my design inspiration comes from pinterest, i recommend just browsing around for inspiration for a design if ure just starting out.

Some examples to what my process looks like. I start off with my shape, i then make a new layer and sketch out the shape. Then i start adding my shadows, my highlights. And then I keep rendering until im satisfied with how it looks !

Another example where i was following a reference to get an understanding of how to make folds, where to put the highlights, and shadows etc. So, Shape - sketch - shadows+highlight - render - finishing touches

Designing hairs have always been tricky for me, but i think finding the proper brush tools for it has a lot to say, so make sure u find one that works smoothly for u. I start by making a bald lil head, this makes it easier to add strands of hair, and how u want ur hair to flow. So start off with this shape, make sure u give ur model some forehead space<3 then add some shadows to get a sense of the shape, its usually a go with the flow process for me. i'll go back and forth adding darker hairstrokes, and lighter ones, and then i keep rendering until im happy with how it looks. i LOVE adding highlights towards the end, and for anyone using procreate, i suggest adding a new layer, put the layer to "Add" and then draw ur highlights. it makes the hair look so yummy and juicy

I recommend using a bunch of layers, so that u always have the ability to go back if theres something u dont like, and can easily edit out. F.ex in this one ive so many layers on these pants i designed. The rendering, the folds, the texture, the letters, quite literally everything ! Its excessive, but ive learned the hard way having to work on a design where ive accidentally merged some layers..

I also recommend having duplicates of ur designs, there have been many times where ive accidentally merged layers and not been able to undo them, or just made silly little mistakes like cropping out a part of a hair on accident... now i always make sure to have at least 3 duplicates of my designs.

My top 5 inspirations for designing are definitely victoria., triptych, aware, applehoax and st4rlet. their designs are so amazing, anytime they drop something with intricate details i cant help but zoom in to admire it and try to understand HOW they did that cus it baffles me everytime. i love how they all have their own unique style, where u can tell who made what. an incredibly talented bunch. getting to design for the community shop and then seeing one of them wearing my items is like, im such a child cus i squeek anytime i see one of my favs wearing something i designed UGH it makes my heart jump

Being able to design for the community shop in general has been so fun. Just seeing peoples reactions, and them wearing my items, and even being excited for me to drop something truly makes me so happy beyond words. im really bad with taking compliments, as im easily overwhelmed, but just know i see u and i wanna kiss u and eat u and toot ur nose and and and i love u

Past, Present and Future

I'll forever cherish my baby leopard boots. i remember being so proud and happy with this design, especially the hair cus i felt like this was the first time i actually managed to design hair that actually looked promising LMAO

And then a lil peak into what ive cooked up for next week! I wanted to make something cozy and hotsie for fall yay<3 i'll also be working on something for halloween so stay sitted HOHO

thank u to the gosupertoolers for giving me the SPOTLIGHT WAOW<3 and thank u so much for taking the time to read ab me yap. AND thank u sososo much for buying my items, its SOOO fun to see how everyone style them like ure all so creative it makes my heart sing<3 THANK YOOO SO MUCH ^_^
